The Centre for Asia-Pacific Pro Bono (CAPPB), which is housed within the Law Council of Australia, will continue to facilitate requests for legal assistance from the Asia-Pacific region with pro bono providers in Australia until 30 June 2015.
An initiative of the Law Council and the Australian Government in 2011, the funding agreement for the CAPPB was originally due to end on 30 June 2014. However, a one-year extension has been granted by the Attorney-General’s Department.
The CAPPB has facilitated more than 18 projects since its launch in July 2012, generating more than $1million worth of pro bono work for organisations in the Asia-Pacific region. Projects have included legislative drafting assistance, legal advice on human rights and other matters, capacity-building and professional development.
A more detailed story on CAPPB-supported projects will be available in the next edition of the Law Council Review.
